The nationwide Campaign for Peace and Non Violence which was launched in 2006 in post-war Sierra Leone has been directed to educational institutions with the view to gain the widest impact, sources confirmed here Sunday.
Edmond Alim Forna, president of the Campaign for Peace and Non Violence, Albert Academy Branch, said the campaign was seriously gaining grounds at the institution, which is one of the oldest in Sierra Leone.
Commenting on the launch of a component of the campaign for the ongoing sport season, Forna called on students throughout the country to establish an atmosphere of non violence and peace.
The Campaign for Peace and Non Violence was launched in schools by the National Commission of Democracy to make educational institutions violence free.
“We are not only limited to the struggle against the illicit use of small arms, but also against drug abuse and HIV/AIDS as sensitizing young girls about their dress code. We are really working very hard to ensure non- violence in schools and the country as a whole,” Forna said.
“We should know that the days of fighting are over and we, the children should stop going around using drugs and fighting each other as we are the future leaders,” he concluded.
