Africa-America-Asia business summit to enhance South-South partnership, says official

The 2nd Africa-America-Asia Business Summit (AAABS), 17-18 March, is a good opportunity to enhance South-South partnership which can leverage the new dynamism generated by South Africa, China, India and Brazil, the director of the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC), Dr Mohan Kaul, averred Tuesday in Flic en Flac, 25km from Port Louis the Mauritian capital.
This, he continued, will encourage greater movements of goods and services, people, capital, expertise, knowledge and ideas among developing countries.
The summit which is organised in collaboration with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) expects to bring together some 300 delegates.
Speaking to journalists, Dr Mohan Kaul indicated that CBC was delighted to hold the AAABS in Mauritius which has successfully been able to diversify its economy from a mono-crop one into textile and apparel industry, tourism, IT and financial services.
“One of the priorities of the Third World should be to attract direct foreign investment both from developed and emerging countries," Dr Kaul pointed out.
CBC director added that the summit will also "address key policy issues on how emerging nations can increase investment in-flow, trade and also capacity in sectors that will allow them to create a sustainable competitive advantage."
The Summit will be organised in plenary sessions and in parallel workshops on specific themes including renewable energy sources, technology and financing models, focus on IT enabled services, focus on tourism, trade finance, venture capital and private equity and development finance.
Preparations are going on at full speed to welcome delegates at the 2nd AAABS to be held at the Swami Vivekananda International centre in Pailles, in the outskirts of Port Louis.
