The Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Hamse Abdi Barre, who is in consultation over forming a new cabinet has held a series of special meetings with civil society groups, his office said in a statement on Monday.

It comes two months after the election of Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for a second spell as president.

His election in May took place against the backdrop of more than thirty years of political instability since the overthrow of strongman Siad Barre in 1991.

PM Barre, who met Somali scholars in the process, pointed out the important role they play in peace, public awareness and the fight against terrorism.

He said they are the leaders in guiding the public and highlighting the scourge of terrorism, which is wrongly used in the name of religion.

The prime minister also held meetings with Somali youth and civil society organizations, listened to their suggestions for the development of social services and job creation for young Somalis as a basis for the plans of the government he is building.

The general civil society that met with Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute their advice and examples to the construction of the government, which reflects the priority given by him to the construction of a quality government.
