African civil society ends meetings in Sharm el-Sheikh
APA- Cairo (Egypt) African civil society organizations concluded their three - day meetings ahead of the AU summit on Thursday in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.
Egypt stressed its keenness on strengthening the role of civil society organizations, and pave the way for their effective participation in the development efforts on the continent.
African civil society organizations demanded the well preparation of the African Diaspora summit to be held in South Africa in October.
The Diaspora summit should discuss issues concerning Africans abroad in cultural, social, political and economic areas.
The summit is aimed at linking African migrants to the motherland, maintain their identity and support the Diaspora, in addition to cooperating with them in establishing investment projects in their nations.
The Diaspora summit will discuss possibility of issuing a common African Union passport in a bid to facilitate the movement of citizens between the African Union member states and the ratification of the Treaty of the United Nations on trans- border crime to prevent cross-border crimes.
The African civil society meetings discussed over the last three days all the challenges facing Africa and referred recommendations to the AU summit.
