Nigeria calls for Serbia’s support to fight corruption

Irked by the recent rating of Transparency International which ranks Nigeria as still very corrupt, the government on Friday called for a collaboration with the Republic of Serbia in the fight against corruption.
Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Yayale Ahmed, who received the Serbian Foreign Affairs Minister, Vuk Jeremic, in Abuja expressed the country’s willingness to collaborate with Serbia in promoting the transparency and general wellbeing of the people.
He called for Serbia’s support in the improvement of Nigeria’s transportation and power sectors as well as help in tracking Nigeria’s corrupt officials who have formed the habit of investing their loots in other countries.
He stressed the desire of Nigeria to implement its electoral reforms as well as provide infrastructure in the Niger Delta and commended Serbia for its plans to award scholarship to Nigerian students in universities under the Non Align Movement programme.
Earlier, Jeremic said Nigeria and Serbia shared common challenges in their efforts at maintaining peace in their countries.
He commended Nigeria for its peace keeping efforts within and outside the African sub region.
Jeremic expressed his country’s willingness to strengthen bi-lateral relationship between both countries.
He expressed the hope that Nigeria would be part of the Non Align Movement anniversary ceremony to marked in 2011.
