The head of the African Union Gender and Development directorate, Litha Musyami Ogana, said on Saturday in Banjul that since the adoption of the AU Gender Policy in January 2009, the AU Commission has been working very hard to ensure that the Policy is implemented as it provides a framework in gender mainstreaming in all AU organs.
The director was addressing the delegates at the African Union (AU) ministers of Gender and Women’s Affairs meeting being held in the Gambian capital.
She made this statement while delivering a paper on behalf of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission Dr Jen Ping.
According to Ogana, the AU Gender Policy will complement existing policies already adopted by regional economic communities and member states of the African Union.
“It is for this reason that the Gender and Development Directorate in my office has worked tirelessly to implement the decisions you took at your Extraordinary Meeting held in Maseru last December”, Ogana added.
