Some 33,000 runners participated in the 9th edition of the Great Ethiopian Run held on Sunday in the presence of runners from Kenya and other countries.
The 9th edition of the Great Ethiopian Run, as in the past years, dominated by the Ethiopian athletes both in the men and women race.
The annual great Ethiopian run is Africa’s biggest road race, which helps Ethiopia to identify new athletics for its known athletics.
The Great Run was initiated by Ethiopian famous athletes Haile Gebresilassie who expressed his appreciation for today’s sucessul race.
“Today, I am very happy for the successful completion of the race, which for the first time broadcast live in international sport channels,” said Haile Gebresilassie.
This year race was held under the theme ”I am running for a Child” which aims to raise funds for children support.
500 Ethiopian athletes from various clubs and 14 ambassadors based in Ethiopia participated in the race, which brought together youth and elders across various countries.
The organizer collected over US$ 40,000.
In the women race, Ethiopian Korina Jalina ranks first and won $ 2,100 while Amane Gobena and Belaynesh Aljira won second and third respectively.
In the men race, Tilahun Regassa ranks first and was awarded US$ 2,100.
Paula Radcliffe, British woman marathon record holder was the guest of honour for the race.
